A showbiz journalist has said there is “no way” the hit royal drama The Crown will come to an end because Prince Harry and Meghan have given them “absolute gold” for future storylines. Appearing on GB News Breakfast with presenters Eamonn Holmes and Isabel Webster reporter Ellie Phillips discussed the much-anticipated finale of the Netflix global hit series.

Makers of The Crown have claimed the latest episodes, covering Princess Diana’s relationship with Dodi Fayed and Prince William and Princess Kate’s first flush of romance, will be the end of the show.

Looking doubtful, and admitting she’s a fan of the series herself, Isabel Webster addressed Ms Phillips: “Can I ask, is this really, really, going to be it?”

Ms Phillips’s reply is categorical: “Absolutely no way, I’m sorry, I know they are saying this is the last one, but Meghan and Harry have given them gold, they given them absolute gold dust.

She added she did not think anything containing the Sussexes was going to “come out next year” but that she could see it happening in “a few years time” with money the programme makes for the streaming giant. Such is the success of the show, Netflix reportedly ploughs £12 million into each episode.

Ms Phillips added she couldn’t see how “with the viewership it gets, the awards it’s getting, that they won’t somehow bring it on into the future, I think people want it.”

Speaking about possible legal ramifications of a modern-day telling of The Crown, Ms Phillips defended any future production by saying it is a “fictional dramatisation”. The final six episodes launched on Netflix on Thursday.
