Queen Camilla stepped up to the mark this morning to lead the royals at a thanksgiving service for the life of King Constantine of the Hellenes, at Windsor Castle.

The Queen, 76, arrived separately to other members of the Royal Family as she was driven to the Galilee Porch entrance. She was accompanied by Queen Anne-Marie, former Queen of the Hellenes.

During the service Camilla could be seen wiping away at a tear as people gathered to celebrate the life of the late King Constantine, who died in January 2023.

Other royals, lead by Prince Andrew, had walked to the Chapel just minutes earlier. This included Sarah Ferguson, Princess Beatrice and Eugenie, Mike and Zara Tindall and Princess Anne.

Prince William announced just moments earlier that he would not be attending the memorial service due to a “personal issue”. Aides did not elaborate further but said the Princess of Wales, who is recovering from abdominal surgery, continues to be doing well.

King Constantine was a close friend and second cousin to Charles and was godfather to his eldest son, Prince William. The last Greek King also had ties with Prince Philip, the late Duke of Edinburgh who was a first cousin once removed and his sailing partner.

The service in the Nave of St George’s Chapel, Windsor, is being led by the Dean of Windsor, The Right Reverend Dr Christopher Cocksworth, and will be attended by Foreign Royal Families and other guests.

Pictures from inside the Chapel show Camilla at the front, with Princess Anne and her husband Sir Timothy Laurence sat beside her. Prince Andrew is also in the front row, seated after the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

In the second row Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie are sat with their husbands, with Mike and Zara seated behind them in the third row.

The thanksgiving service had originally been scheduled for January 27, with King Charles and the Prince and Princess of Wales expected to attend, but it was postponed by a month following the shock health announcements that came a few weeks earlier.

Members of the Greek Royal Family, including Queen Anne-Marie, former Queen of the Hellenes, and Crown Prince Pavlos, were present for the memorial service alongside other foreign royals.

King Constantine was the last King of Greece and reigned from 1964 to 1974.

He served in all three branches of the Hellenic Armed Forces and attended the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Law School.

In 2013, King Constantine II returned to permanently reside in Greece. He passed away in the city of his birth, Athens, on 10th January 2023 and was buried privately in the Royal Cemetery at Tatoi.
