One of King Charles’s most famous royal residences has been left unrecognisable over the last few days as a result of the weather.

Balmoral Castle, the Royal Family’s most loved Scottish residence, has been dusted in snow this week, with staff having issued a warning to all visitors.

On the official Balmoral Instagram page on Friday, a staff member said the castle was going to open later than usual. They wrote: “Please note that we will once again be opening later today at 11 AM.

“While we do our best to clear the pathways, we kindly ask all visitors to be cautious as some areas may still be slippery. Please watch your footing and stay safe during your visit.”

Over the winter, the grounds and gardens of the castle are open for visitors to enjoy along with the Mews Gift Shop and the restaurant on a select number of days.

Admission to the estate is free during this time of the year but does not include access to the castle.

The estate is among one of the Royal Family’s favourite locations and is well-known for being the preferred holiday destination for senior royals over the summer holidays.

During the summer months, the monarch is known to invite his nearest and dearest to the estate, including Prince William, Princess Kate, and their three children Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six.

The castle is also known to have been one of the late Queen Elizabeth’s favourite places, with Her Majesty passing away at the castle on September 8, 2022.

As well as being fond of the castle, Balmoral is also one of King Charles’ favourite places to stay as the estate is home to his own house Birkhall.

This home is believed to be the place where he proposed to Queen Camilla in 2005.

While the King spends most of his time at Clarence House in London, the 76-year-old monarch has spent plenty of time at Balmoral this year, including during periods of rest as he underwent cancer treatment.

The monarch stayed in Scotland after the summer holidays to rest before his big royal tour of Australia and Samoa last month.
