King Harald is looking well and happy in an official photo taken just weeks after surgery to fit a pacemaker,

The King of Norway, 87, was seen alongside Queen Sonja as they began their Easter break at Bygdø Kongsgård.

They were joined by their son, Crown Prince Haakon, and Crown Princess Mette-Marit as well as grandchildren, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus.

Harald V has been on sick leave since February when he fell ill while on a private holiday in Malaysia. He was taken to hospital there to be treated for an infection before doctors decided he needed a temporary pacemaker fitted to allow him to make the journey home to Norway.

On his return to Oslo, he was fitted with a permanent pacemaker and spent several days recuperating in hospital before returning home to the Royal Palace.

Norway’s king remains on sick leave until after the Easter break.

He is spending the holiday with his family.
