Another piece of Princess Diana’s wardrobe is up for auction and it’s a piece that many might recognise as an iconic moment in history – the pink blouse worn in her 1981 engagement portrait.

The blouse is available to purchase as part of the Julien’s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies’ Hollywood Legends auction. According to Julien’s, it’s estimated the blouse could bring in anywhere from $80,000 to $100,000 USD. The piece, which was worn in a portrait by Lord Snowden, the former husband of Princess Margaret, is described as a “pink crepe blouse” with loose pleats and a ruff-like collar. The designer of the shirt, David and Elizabeth Emanuel would later design Diana’s iconic wedding gown.

Julien’s Auctions says the late princess had picked the blouse from a rack of clothing presented to her by former Vogue fashion editor, Anna Harvey. In the book, A Dress for Diana, Elizabeth Emanuel shares that after a client left a mascara stain on a custom-made gown, the material was then repurposed for the blouse. The Emanuels say Diana fell in love with it. The piece was seen in the February 1981 issue of Vogue. It was then on display at Kensington Palace for an exhibition from 2017 to 2019.

The auction comes right on time for the holidays as it takes place from 14 December to the 17th in Beverly Hills. For those who can’t make it in person, they can bid online. The blouse will be up for auction on the fourth day which is being called “Glamour, Grace and Greatness.” The auction company describes it as a collection of some of the most star-making and head-turning pieces of the greatest style icons of all time.
