The First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, will be at the Coronation.
Dr. Biden will lead US representation at the ceremony.
The announcement came as invitations to the Coronation were prepared for dispatch from the office of the Earl Marshal. The design of the invites has also been shared.
It had been reported several days ago that President Joe Biden wouldn’t be attending the service. No US President has ever attended a coronation.
In the past, heads of state have rarely been at the ceremony where the focus is on the new monarch. However, it is understood that several world leaders have already confirmed their attendance at the crowning of The King and Queen Camilla.
The White House said that the President had spoken to King Charles III by telephone, and a spokesperson added that the two had discussed the relationship between their countries and people. They added “The President congratulated the King on his upcoming Coronation and informed him that First Lady Jill Biden looks forward to attending on behalf of the United States.”
It is expected that President Biden and King Charles will meet at some time in the near future.
In December 2022, the Prince of Wales met President Biden during a visit to Boston for the Earthshot Award.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla will be crowned at Westminster Abbey on May 6th 2023.
