Today marks the 70th Anniversary of the Death of Archduchess Margarethe Klementine of Austria, Princess von Thurn und Taxis, who passed away on this day in 1955! The Austrian Archduchess who was the Princess of Thurn und Taxis for over six decades, we are featuring the magnificent Thurn und Taxis Empire Tiara!

Composed of antique diamond scrolls and honeysuckles, the grand Thurn und Taxis Empire Tiara was made around 1825 in the style of the French Empire.

Archduchess Margarethe Klementine, the Princess of Thurn und Taxis wore the Empire Tiara for a striking series of Official Portraits, paired with an ornate Diamond Necklace and Diamond Stomacher, around the 1920s.

The Empire Tiara was notably worn by Archduchess Margarethe Klementine for the Wedding of the Prince Friedrich Christian of Saxony and her daughter, Princess Elisabeth Helene of Thurn and Taxis, at Schloss Regensburg in 1923.

Archduchess Margarethe Klementine most notably wore the Empire Tiara for her magnificent Diamond Wedding Anniversary Celebrations at Schloss St. Emmeram in 1950, paired with several heirloom Diamond Necklaces and Chokers.   

After the death of the Prince of Thurn und Taxis in 1990, Princess Gloria was left with debts of $500 million and put several Family Jewels at Auction in 1992, which included the Empire Tiara, but it did not meet the reserve price, so presumably remains in the Princely Vaults.
