King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark hosted a gala dinner at Christiansborg Palace to celebrate Danish arts and culture. And the Danish queen chose a personal tiara for the evening, one with an interesting history.

While she was Crown Princess, Mary bought a convertible necklace in 2012 from Bruun Rasmussen. She bought the lot for €8050, nearly double the expected selling price.

The yellow gold and silver necklace was set with diamonds, rubies, and spinels and is dated to 1900-1910.

Mary replaced the missing stone and first wore the necklace with the matching pair of earrings in 2015.

She also had a new frame created for the necklace so it could be worn as a tiara, and debuted the new diadem in 2016 at a gala dinner.

The then-Crown Princess Mary wore the Edwardian tiara for several different state and personal events, including King Harald and Queen Sonja’s 80th birthday dinner at the Royal Palace in Oslo.

Queen Mary paired her favourite tiara with her rose pink Georgia gown from Jenny Packham. She wore the gown for her official birthday portrait in 2022 and the coordinating 50th birthday interview with the Financial Times.

Queen Margrethe joined King Frederik and Queen Mary at the gala in the Baden Palmette Tiara, a piece that was created in the 1850s.
