Meghan Markle appeared at Variety’s Power of Women gala in LA on Thursday evening striking poses for the cameras in a beige dress.

The Duchess is thought to have hated donning the colour for royal events but that appears to no longer be the case, according to a body language expert.

Meghan beamed at the A-list event wearing an off-the-shoulder Proenza Schouler dress with £720 Aquazzura heels paired with a slicked bun.

Speaking to Daily Express US, Judi James noted how Meghan’s poses were “Hollywood” in nature, as opposed to those normally struck by members of the Royal Family.

Ms James said: “These are Hollywood poses, not royal ones. Her dress might be in the shade of beige she claimed to dislike having to wear as a royal, but her rather knowing, eye-narrowed smiles and the perfect displaying of this deceptively simple sheath dress all put her in a different league of power-celebrity.”

Meghan smiled at the cameras upon arriving at the event, striking poses until she was ushered along by someone working on the red carpet.

The fact that Meghan had to be ushered along shows just how much Meghan enjoyed being the centre of attention, according to Ms James.

She added: “The appearance of this PR’s arm does provide the biggest hint of how much Meghan is enjoying this very celebrity solo appearance though, going through a variety of what looks like pitch-perfect, well-crafted poses that include a sideways glance over one bare shoulder and a more statuesque pose with chin raised to suggest confidence and A-list elegance.”

In that Netflix docuseries, Meghan revealed that much of the time she was in the UK, she rarely wore colour for fear of offending senior royals.

In episode three of that series, she said: “Most of the time that I was in the UK, I rarely wore colour. There was thought in that.”

The Duchess continued: “To my understanding, you could never wear the same colour as Her Majesty [Queen Elizabeth II] if there’s a group event, but then you also shouldn’t be wearing the same colour as one of the other more senior members of the family.”

Meghan added: “So I was like, ‘Well, what’s a colour that they’ll probably never wear?’ Camel, beige, white. So, I wore a lot of muted tones, but it was also so I could just blend in. I’m not trying to stand out here. There was no version of me joining this family and me not doing everything I could to fit in. I don’t want to embarrass the family.”

Meghan’s friend and TV megastar Oprah Winfrey also attended the Power of Women event as did A-listers Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Margot Robbie and Carey Mulligan.

Actor Leonardo Di Caprio also attended the extravagant soiree.

The news comes ahead of a new book by Meghan’s biography Omid Scobie who wrote Finding Freedom: Harry, Meghan, and the Making of a Modern Royal Family.
