The Princess of Wales visits Bath to mark Mental Health Awareness Week – Royal Central

The Princess of Wales had a busy day of engagements in Bath on May 16. Her Royal Highness met with several different organisations and communities to mark Mental Health Awareness Week.

Mental Health Awareness Week is from the 15th to the 21st of May this year in the United Kingdom. The Mental Health Foundation is the charity that organises it, and they have chosen the theme of anxiety for this year.

The Princess spent the day in Bath to meet with local communities.

She first visited the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust. The Trust works to help retired athletes build a new path and new skills while they help mentor disadvantaged youths. The core belief of the programme is that these athletes can help younger people who are struggling by sharing their “winning mindset”.

Catherine wore casual white trousers, a yellow blazer, and white trainers to meet with some of the athletes who serve as mentors and some of the younger people whom the programme has helped.

Broadly the Trust works to help students to build and understand the importance of healthy relationships in their communities, and to help them to work towards their own achievements.

She also met with students from St. Katharine’s School in Bristol to chat about their experiences in the On Track to Achieve programme where Paralympic gold medalist Liz Johnson mentors them. Her Royal Highness spent several minutes deep in conversation with pupils after she met with their mentors.

The Princess of Wales has focused on the issues surrounding mental health for several years now and has worked with various groups to help bring awareness. In 2016, the then-Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry launched Heads Together, a campaign that works to reduce the stigma around discussing mental health and to provide more widely available resources.
