It’s a modern royal event that has quickly become a tradition and, despite a change in title, there are no plans to alter this special day out.
However, it pays to be organised. And even though the 2024 holiday season has not begun yet, King Frederik of Denmark is looking forward to June 2025 as tickets for his royal run went on sale on November 12th 2024.
The races take place on June 9th 2025. Different cities are chosen to host the races and in 2025, they will be: Ribe, Viborg, Horsens, Korsør and Copenhagen.
Participants will be able to choose between 1.6km, 5km, and 10km runs.
The then-Crown Prince Frederik created the Royal Run in 2018 as a way to celebrate his 50th birthday. Over 70,000 people took part in the first event. Because it was so popular, Frederik chose to make the event annual and it’s quickly become a favourite spring day out. In 2024, almost 100,000 people ran in the races with registration often selling out before the end of December.
King Frederik is not the only royal to take part. Queen Mary runs in a different race to her husband and in recent years they have also been joined by their four children. In 2024, Crown Prince Christian also led a run.
