King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark will host Icelandic President Halla Tómasdóttir and Björn Skúlason on their State Visit to Denmark next week, which is the first State Visit of the Reign of King Frederik X.

The Icelandic state visit is the first inbound state visit for the Royal Couple and the first outbound state visit for the newly elected Icelandic President. The state visit marks the historical ties and the close relationship between Denmark and Iceland.

During the visit, the presidential couple will be accompanied by a business delegation with a focus on strengthening the Danish-Icelandic cooperation and on common ambitions on the broad sustainability agenda. In addition, there will be a joint focus on technological solutions in connection with the digital and green transition.

Program

Tuesday, October 8

Arrival at Nordre Toldbod
at 10.00

  • The royal couple welcomes Iceland’s President, HE Halla Tómasdóttir and spouse Mr. Björn Skúlason at Nordre Toldbod in Copenhagen, where the Presidential couple arrives by chalup.
  • Also present are transport minister Thomas Danielsen, minister for cities and rural areas, minister for churches and minister for Nordic cooperation Morten Dahlin and Denmark’s ambassador to Iceland Erik Vilstrup Lorenzen.
  • After the reception, the King and Queen together with the Presidential couple drive to the Castle in the carriage escorted by the Horse Squadron of the Guard Hussar Regiment.

Wreath-laying on the Castle
at 10.20

  • The royal couple and the presidential couple take part in wreath-laying at the Monument on Kastellet.

Official reception at Amalienborg
at 10.50

  • The royal couple and the presidential couple drive in the carriage escorted by the Guardhussar Regiment’s Horse Squadron from Kastellet to Christian VII’s Palace at Amalienborg.

Visit to Jónshús
at 11.55

  • The royal couple and the presidential couple visit Jónshús, an Icelandic cultural center in Copenhagen. In the banquet hall, the Royal Couple and the Presidential Couple meet, among other things, Icelandic women from the Association of Women in Business in Denmark (FKA-DK) and young Icelandic business women in the Nordics from the association Katla Nordic, as well as representatives from the Icelandic parliament, the Altinget. The director of Jónshús Halla Benediktsdóttir accompanies the Royal Couple and the Presidential Couple through the exhibition “Jón Sigurdsson’s home”, and entries are made in the guestbook.

During the visit to Jónshús, the Royal Couple and the Presidential Couple also participate in a lunch.

Visit to the Folketing
at 1.45 pm

  • The presidential couple meet with the Speaker of the Danish Parliament, Søren Gade. In the Conversation Room, the Presidential couple greets members of the Folketing, after which the Presidential couple write in the guestbook and see the exhibition of Danish constitutions.

Visit to the Arnamagnæan Collection
at 14.35

  • The royal couple and the presidential couple visit the Arnamagnæanske Samling at the University of Copenhagen. The royal couple and the presidential couple are received by, among others, rector Henrik C. Wegener, dean of the Faculty of Humanities Kirsten Busch Nielsen and department head of the Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics Anne Jensen.
  • The Arnamagnæanske Samling is a collection of manuscripts that can be dated back to the Middle Ages. The manuscripts are used today for research in, among other things, textual and linguistic studies within older Nordic languages.
  • Lecturer and curator Anne Mette Hansen presents the Royal couple and the Presidential couple for the manuscript “Reykjabók”. After the presentation, the Royal Couple and the Presidential Couple visit the box where the Arnamagnæan Collection is kept.

Visit to CopenHill
at 15.55

  • The presidential couple visit CopenHill. Director of Amager Ressourcecenter Jacob H. Simonsen gives the Presidential couple a tour of the facility, and along the way they cross the “Star Wars bridge”. The visit ends at the top of CopenHill with a view over Copenhagen.

Meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense
at 17.15

  • The presidential couple meet with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen in the Ministry of Defence.

Gala table at Christiansborg Castle
at 20.00

  • The royal couple are hosts at a gala dinner at Christiansborg Palace in honor of the presidential couple with the participation of HRH Princess Benedikte, the government, representatives of Danish and Icelandic business, representatives of culture and sport, the Icelandic delegation, representatives of the Court and others.
  • At the gala table, there will be speeches by the King and the President.

Wednesday 9 October

Visit to State of Green
at 8.10

  • The presidential couple visit State of Green, which is a private-public partnership between the Danish government, relevant companies and actors within the energy sector. State of Green works to make Denmark a leading country in green growth and to make Denmark independent of fossil fuels by 2025.

Business conference in Danish Industry
at 8.55

  • The royal couple participates together with the presidential couple in the opening of a business conference in Danish Industry, where His Majesty and the President give an opening speech. After a panel debate on “Energy and Geopolitics”, State of Green and Green by Iceland sign an agreement.
  • Iceland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir and Denmark’s Minister for Climate, Energy and Supply Lars Aagaard will also take part in the conference, among others.

Visit to Copenhagen Business School (CBS)
at 9.55

  • The President visits Copenhagen Business School, which is Denmark’s fourth largest university with approximately 20,000 students. During the visit, the President gives a speech and meets some of the many Icelandic researchers and students at Copenhagen Business School.

Business lunch and conference in Danish Industry
at 12.00

  • The presidential couple participates in a business lunch after the conference “Iceland and Denmark’s Path to Shared Success” in Dansk Industri. Climate, Energy and Supply Minister Lars Aagaard will also participate.

Visit to the Icelandic ambassador’s residence
at 14.00

  • The King and the President visit the Icelandic ambassador’s residence, where the King and the President take part in a round table discussion with representatives from business. Iceland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir and Minister for Cities and Rural Areas, Minister for the Church and Minister for Nordic Cooperation Morten Dahlin will also participate in the visit.

Visit to Too Good To Go
at 14.05

  • The President’s spouse Mr. Björn Skúlason visits the company Too Good To Go, which has been in existence since 2016 and works to combat food waste by helping food businesses sell their surplus food.

Return arrangement at Nordatlantens Brygge

  • The presidential couple will hold a return event at Nordatlantens Brygge with the participation of the royal couple and Princess Benedikte.
  • Among others, Iceland’s ambassador Pétur Ásgeirsson will also participate in the event.
