It was always going to be a private wedding but the nuptials of Norway’s Princess Martha Louise and Durek Verrett have prompted a new level of royal silence.

Since the couple announced they would share their celebrations exclusively with Hello magazine, royal announcements about being happy for the couple but stating that nothing more will be said are becoming a regal regular.

First, Norway’s court confirmed that no member of the country’s royal family would be seen in the photos taken for the magazine or in the programme being filmed around the couple for Netflix.

In fact, so keen were the royals to state that they wouldn’t be joining in the picture shoot that they announced that before even saying which members of the family would be attending.

It was revealed days later that, as expected, King Harald and Queen Sonja will be at their only daughter’s wedding. Crown Prince Haakon and his wife, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, will also be there along with their two children, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus. King Harald’s 92 year old sister, and aunt of the bride, Princess Astrid, will also attend.

However, absent from the celebrations will be Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s elder son from a previous relationship, Marius Borg Hoiby, who is currently under police investigation following allegations of assault and damage.

Crown Prince Haakon told reporters that he was looking forward to his sister’s wedding but he won’t be making a speech at the celebrations.

Now, it’s been confirmed that any speech by the father of the bride won’t, as things stand, be made public. The royal court won’t reveal it as it’s a private wedding while the royal reticence to be involved in the magazine and TV deal means that it won’t appear in any of the exclusive coverage negotiated by Martha Louise and Durek.

Norway’s royals aren’t the only ones to show a shyness around the wedding. Two other courts have confirmed attendance details and made it very clear, while they did so, that this is a private wedding and no regal comments will be forthcoming.

Denmark’s royals shut down questions completely with a brief statement to publication Billed-Bladet. Their spokesperson said that ”the Danish Royal House will not be officially represented at Princess Märtha Louise’s wedding to Durek Verrett in Geiranger.” Princess Martha Louise is just a few years younger than the new King of Denmark and remains good friends with Frederik X and his wife, Queen Mary. However, it appears that her wedding will be a Danish royal free zone.

Sweden’s royal family has also spoken about the celebrations. It’s been confirmed that the country’s heir to the throne, Crown Princess Victoria, and her husband, Prince Daniel, will be present. Also on the guest list are Victoria’s younger brother, Prince Carl Philip, and his wife, Princess Sofia. However, you’ve guessed it, as far as they’re all concerned, it’s a private event and nothing more will be said.

It’s unlikely too much will be seen of any of the guests, royal or otherwise, during the four days of celebrations around the marriage. The ceremony itself is taking place in the Union Hotel which means doors can be kept firmly shut and the whole event can be kept, well, private.
