Queen Camilla surprised us all by debuting the late Queen’s Five Aquamarine Tiara for the annual Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace tonight! Worn only once by the late Queen, it had appeared on the Duchess of Edinburgh a few times in the past decade, but the Tiara was an unusual decision for Queen Camilla.

The exact origin of the Tiara is unknown but it features five striking oval Aquamarines set within clusters of diamond ribbons and bows on a high frame. The aquamarines may be Brazilian like those in the late Queen’s Brazilian Aquamarine Tiara.

The Queen was pictured wearing this Five Aquamarine Tiara only once, for a Banquet in Yellowknife during a Tour of Canada in 1970.

After several decades, the Five Aquamarine Tiara appeared on the then Countess of Wessex at the Wedding Gala of Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg and Countess Stephanie de Lannoy in 2012.

The following year, the Countess of Wessex wore the Five Aquamarine Tiara for the Wedding of Princess Madeleine of Sweden.

A year later, the Five Aquamarine Tiara was worn by the Countess of Wessex for a Singapore State Banquet at Buckingham Palace.

More recently, the now Duchess of Edinburgh wore the Five Aquamarine Tiara for the State Banquet at Buckingham Palace during the Dutch State Visit to Britain in 2018. After Duchess of Edinburgh debuted the Lotus Flower Tiara a few months ago, it seems that jewels have shifted around in the British Royal Family.

Today, Queen Camilla wore the Five Aquamarine Tiara with an aquamarine suite from her own collection for the Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace. Not as large as her usual choices, like the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara, Burmese Ruby Tiara, or Greville Tiara, it is interesting to see the Queen wearing smaller Tiaras, especially those recently worn by other members of the Royal Family. Let’s see which royal lady wears this striking Royal heirloom next!
