It is perhaps a little known anecdote, but when he was studying at the University of Cambridge, King Charles III was struck by a bus while cycling in the city centre.

His Majesty revealed the incident during a visit to Cambridge back in 2016 alongside his wife, Queen Camilla

During a visit to mark the bicentenary of the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, The King told the gathered dignitaries about the incident some 50 years prior.

He said: “Quite how I survived being run over by a bus when I was on a bicycle just outside here, I don’t know. But it was a very special experience, as most of you probably know.”

The King didn’t elaborate further. His staff added this was the first time they’d heard of the incident, to the best of their knowledge.

Charles III attended Trinity College, Cambridge between 1967 and 1970. He first studied archaeology and anthropology before switching to a history course.

The King graduated with a 2:2 degree in 1970 and he is the first British Monarch to complete a degree.
