Princess Kate said she felt that living in Kensington Palace made her and her family feel like “caged animals”, acccording to a brand new royal biography.

In 2016, the Princess of Wales’s aides reportedly told Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s biographer Omid Scobie about Kate’s reservations about the central London property.

She is alleged to have felt that the family lacked privacy, owing to the Palace being in one of the city’s busiest parks.

Exactly 196 pages into the tell-all biography – Endgame – Mr Scobie writes: “Kensington Palace served them well but the parents to the second, third, and fourth in line to the throne felt it was time to find something less in the middle of everybody else’s business.

“At times, one of the couple’s senior aides told me in 2016, Kate commented that it made them feel “a bit like caged animals,” due to its heaving central London location and the fact that it was surrounded by tourists in one of the city’s busiest parks.”

Mr Scobie’s divulgence of Kate’s feelings about Kensington Palace comes as the Welsh explains why the family moved to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor.

He writes: “In the summer of 2022, the family of five left behind Kensington Palace and moved twenty-four miles outside the capital to Windsor. Adelaide Cottage, a “modest” (only by royal standards) four-bedroom property, is giving the family the opportunity to live a more “normal” life, their team has said.

“Adelaide isn’t a permanent home (the couple have their eyes on Prince Andrew’s Royal Lodge residence in Windsor — if he ever gives it up), but Windsor’s quiet, rural environment is exactly what they were looking for.”

Mr Scobie’s new book comes with a swathe of revelations and accusations about Prince William and his family.

The Welsh author alleges there are simmering tensions between King Charles and his eldest son. He also sensationally claims that the future King torched his relationship with Prince Harry by briefing reporters about him.

He said: “He’s sharing private information about his brother that ended up on the front page of a newspaper not long later”.

It comes as Buckingham Palace has said the allegations are not worth responding to.
