Queen Sofia has begun her Easter stay in Mallorca at a concert for an important cause.

At the start of her time in Palma, Queen Sofia attended the annual musical celebration for Home Balears which supports people with addictions.

Her younger sister, Princess Irene of Greece, was at her side for the concert which was held at the Cathedral in Palma.

The evening featured music by the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands and the University Choir of the Balearic Islands. There were performances from Irene Mas, Begona Gomez and Joan Lainez as well as Josep Miquel Ribot.

The concert takes place every year in aid of Home Balears which was set up in 1985 to provide help to those dealing with addiction. Its work includes therapy and prevention programmes and which aims to support people through every stage of getting free of addiction.

The Spanish Royal Family traditionally spends the Easter holidays in Mallorca. It is expected that King Felipe and Queen Letizia will join Queen Sofia there soon. Princess Leonor continues her military training while Infanta Sofia is on a break from her college studies in Wales.
