Queen Margrethe’s 70th Birthday Celebrations

Queen Margrethe’s 70th Birthday Celebrations

Next week, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark will be celebrating her 85th Birthday, and after the 60th Birthday Celebrations, we are looking back when Queen Margrethe celebrated her 70th Birthday with a Banquet at Christiansborg Palace, a Gala Performance at the Royal Theatre and a Gala at Fredensborg Palace 15 years ago!

The Celebrations began with a Banquet at Christiansborg Palace on April 13th, which was attended by Queen Margrethe II (wearing the Pearl Poiré Tiara) and Prince Henrik leading Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary (in her Wedding Tiara), Prince Joachim and Princess Marie (wearing the Dagmar Tiara), and Princess Benedikte (in her Floral Tiara).

The celebrations were overshadowed by the eruptions of Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland, which made it impossible for many guests to arrive in Copenhagen by time, with the Swedish, Norwegian and Dutch Royals having to travel by road and train, while the Duke of Edinburgh had to cancel his attendance altogether.

Two days later, the Danish Royal Family were joined by some Foreign Royal Guests for a Gala Performance at the Royal Danish Theatre.
