Queen Letizia of Spain alongside King Felipe, welcomed guests from around the world at Zarzuela Palace in Madrid – the royal couple’s home and official working residence, only for Queen Letizia to suffer from a wardrobe blunder while she was greeting guests.

Looking remarkable in a floor-length, navy blue, v-cut dress, the mother of two greeted members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to Spain.

Standing side by side with her husband, she was shaking hands with each ambassador as she passed, but after shaking hands with one diplomat, her stunning diamond bracelet became loose, and fell to the floor.

The 51-year-old proved her down-to-earth nature as she swiftly knelt down, and scooped up her fallen diamond bracelet, determined not to cause a scene.

Queen Letizia gracefully then returned to action with a warm smile, before attempting to fix her bracelet, put it back on her wrist and regain composure.

The fashionista reassembled the bracelet with a final check from King Felipe, before the pair carried on through the day with their duties.

The Queen was also wearing a sparkling silver and sapphire set consisting of a necklace, a bracelet and stunning earrings, and her hair was styled down with a side parting, and gentle curls.

The royals were pictured in the highest of spirits as they greeted everyone in attendance, with King Felipe, looking slightly shocked at the jewellery mishap, but regaining composure quickly.

The diplomatic reception typically takes place in the new year, which the couple has undertaken annually since King Felipe acceded to the throne in 2014.

There are a total of 126 embassies and almost consulates-general in Spain, 153 of which are official and more than 600 honorary.
