The Princess of Wales praised the ‘really precious’ youth charity Streets of Growth during a visit.

Catherine toured the East London charity facilities and met both staff and young people who receive help from the organisation.

Streets of Growth helps to re-engage young people between the ages of 15-25 in need of outreach due to factors like bullying and social isolation and who made need help and intervention to become productive members of society again.

According to the charity’s website, they help young people with ‘stage-based programming’ and outreach in areas involving “lifestyle, environment, education and career progression” to help them in the long term to build change in their lives.

Catherine praised the innovative and creative approach of Streets of Growth, telling its creators that she loves “places where everyone can come together to be creative – it’s really precious,” and that it’s important to recognise the backstories of young people who reach out for help because to learn more about who they are impacts the help they can receive.

The Princess popped in to visit three young people in the midst of recording a podcast episode during her tour, telling them, “Hello! I’m sorry, I’m totally interrupting.”

Catherine was photographed answering questions as part of the podcast as well, telling the hosts that it’s important to talk about our emotions, including the negative ones that are sometimes encouraged to be ignored.

Speaking with young mothers, Catherine talked about the importance of charities like Streets of Growth. She told them: “It’s tools and skills and being able to express yourself. All these things are what so many people like this and the country need.

“It’s also meeting families and young people before they get to crisis point and there’s a huge amount of intervention that can be done.”

After Catherine’s visit, Kensington Palace said on social media: “A pleasure to visit @SoGrowth in East London, a game-changing charity which supports young people to transform their lives in the face of adversity…

“It was great to meet some of the young people and those working with them, to see how they are flourishing under the charity’s programmes.”
