Queen Camilla starts the summer party with a Big Lunch

The Queen was the life of the party with a visit to a Big Lunch at Eden Dock in Canary Wharf.

As Patron, Queen Camilla stopped by the Big Lunch 2025 to enjoy the festivities and celebrate the day.

The Big Lunch was first hosted by the Eden Project in 2009 to help bring communities and neighbours together for friendship, food, and fun once a year. The annual event is celebrated across the United Kingdom each year with communities planning their own Big Lunch.

Her Majesty was able to enjoy some cake and sandwiches with local community members before taking in a performance of “America” from West Side Story and getting to see drawings from some of the younger community members. The pupils from Mulberry Wood Wharf primary school not only brought their drawings but helped make the bunting decorations for the event.

The Queen was also surprised by two creatively dressed attendees who chose to be living hedges.

The day was not without a prize, though- Queen Camilla awarded the Big Lunch Recipe Search winner with their title. Melanie Booth’s recipe for butternut squash and chile empanadas won this year’s prize.

Queen Camilla has been Patron of the Big Lunch since 2013 and regularly attends a Big Lunch each year. In 2023, the Big Lunch was an official Coronation event held in May to help everyone celebrate Their Majesties’ coronation and their communities.
