Queen Camilla is attending the 95th year of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey this morning.

The royal, wearing a dark green dress and black jacket with a matching hat and gloves, stood in front of the Cross of Remembrance for a quiet moment of reflection. She was then invited to lay a Cross of Remembrance.

The ‘Exhortation of Remembrance’ followed and the chimes of Big Ben at 11am.

Following a two-minute silence, Camilla was invited to meet the Secretary of State for Defence, Grant Shapps, the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Johnny Mercer, and a short line-up of staff and supporters of The Poppy Factory.

The Queen is participating in a longstanding Remembrance tradition, which was started by Major George Howson MC in 1928. He suggested using land outside Westminster Abbey as a place where anyone could plant a poppy in memory of a loved one.

Arriving at the Abbey this morning, the Queen was greeted by the Dean of Westminster Abbey, the Very Reverend David Hoyle.

He then invited Camilla to meet several members of Abbey staff, The National President of the Royal British Legion, Vice Admiral Sir Clive Johnstone and the President of the Poppy Factory, Surgeon Rear Admiral Lionel Jarvis.
