Princess Margriet of the Netherlands, the aunt of King Willem-Alexander, has beenattending a musical competition for the musical talents of the future.

Princess Margriet is on the Recommendation Committee for the Prince Christina Competition and attended one of five regional finals for the competition this weekend. After watching the musicians, she spent time speaking with the winners afterwards.

The competition was established in 1967 as the Edith Stein Competition and was created to encourage musical talent among young people in the Netherlands.

Princess Christina of the Netherlands, the fourth and youngest child of Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard, was known for her musical talent. She studied vocal teaching in Montreal before moving to New York City to work as a professional performer. Known as Christina van Oranje in her career, she released several CDs across multiple genres.

Princess Christina agreed for the competition to be renamed in her honour in 1989; in 1996 the Princess Christina Composition Competition was added. The competition now has streams in classical music, jazz music, and composition.

There will be a national semi-final for the competition held in Leiden; the finals for the 2025 competition will be held on 18 May in The Hague.
