Meghan Markle has revealed the sweet name her children Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three, call their dad Prince Harry.
While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s two children are not with the couple at The Invictus Games in Canada, Meghan had been unable to resist mentioning Archie and Lilibet in her impromptu speech at the opening ceremony of the games over the weekend.
As well as referring to the couple’s children in the speech as “very sweet” and “excited”, she also revealed that they call Harry, 40, by one sweet name.
Speaking on stage, Meghan revealed that when the children talk to their dad, they refer to him as “Papa”.
The duchess, 43, shared this information when she was recalling how their oldest child has been questioning why Harry has been on the phone more in the build up to the Invictus Games.
Meghan said: “Archie will say Papa why are you on your phone? He’s like ‘Because it’s Invictus, I’m getting ready for Invictus’.”
The duchess, who then welcomed her husband to the stage, also revealed that the children will be cheering Harry on from the family’s home in California, where they have lived since 2020.
The couple moved to the mansion in Montecito after quitting life as senior royals five years ago.
While Archie had lived in the UK before, the couple’s daughter Lilibet has only ever called America home.
As well as Harry going by the name Papa when it comes to his children, this is also the name Harry’s estranged brother Prince William goes by with his children Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six.
The Prince of Wales even wore a bracelet made by his daughter with the words Papa written on it during a solo royal tour last year of South Africa.
For his birthday last year, Princess Kate also shared a message on social media to the prince from herself and their three children in which she referred to William as ‘papa’. She wrote: “Happy birthday Papa, we all love you so much! Cx.”
Although the brothers are called the same names by their children, it is believed that they are still not on talking terms since the release of Harry’s memoir Spare in 2023.
