Princess Anne reportedly had a hilarious reaction to Zara Tindall’s tongue piercing – which she had done as a teenager.

It appears Zara is just like her mum when it comes to having a rebellious streak, and one incident that happened when she was just 17 left her mother reacting in a way most parents wouldn’t.

During the then-Prince Charles 50th birthday party, Zara showed up with a tongue piercing – leaving Anne reportedly “unfazed”.

According to an unearthed interview with Tatler, Zara reflected on the situation, all while laughing at her mother’s neutral reaction.

The interview, which was recently reported by HELLO!, stated that Anne simply asked her daughter if she was “able to speak properly with the invasive accessory”.

Members of the Royal Family aren’t typically known to get anything drastic done to their bodies, but it has become more commonplace to have dyed hair or wear something a little more daring.

Despite it appears that Zara has won top spot on that, with no other royal seemingly yet having done something as drastic as a nose piercing.

Zara was, at the time, experimenting with her style, just like traditionally teenagers do.

Speaking to Tatler, Zara said: “At least I didn’t have it coming out of my nose, or anything.”

Royal butler Grant Harrold previously revealed that Zara’s new look did receive a lot of media attention.

Reflecting on the first time he saw the piercing, Mr Harrold said: “[Zara] was the very first royal I met. In Scotland I was working and it was the weekend.

“It was all in the press that she had her tongue pierced and it was so exciting because when she was speaking to us, I suddenly saw the tongue piercing and I was like ‘Oh, I’ve seen it’.

He added that Zara being “naughty” was exactly what Princess Anne wanted, opting to not give her and her brother, Peter, titles so they could have extended freedom.
