The Princess Royal has been rewarded for her many years of loyalty to both The King and the Royal Family with the 72-year-old handed a starring role at the upcoming Coronation.
According to the Daily Mirror, Princess Anne has been chosen to act as the Gold-Stick-in-Waiting at the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla on May 6.
The highly important historical role is handed to the person who the monarch entrusts with their personal safety
As Gold-Stick-in-Waiting to to The King, Princess Anne will travel behind Their Majesties in the Coronation procession on horseback.
Her Royal Highness will follow behind The King and Queen’s Gold State Coach, leading around 6,000 armed services personnel.
Sources told the Daily Mirror that Princess Anne was “incredibly honoured” to have been approached for the role.
The Gold Stick is a very rarely used role and is now only seen at major state occasions.
The role is held jointly by the Colonels of the Life Guards and the Blues and Royals. Princess Anne is current Colonel of the Blues and Royals, with Sir Edward Alexander Smyth-Osbourne Colonel of the Life Guards
There is also the Silver Stick who is in charge of the ceremonial aspects. That role is held by the Commander of the Household Cavalry.
