Princess Anne dons a hard hat for a brand new venture – Royal Central

The Princess Royal was in a hard hat and high vis jacket as she got to grips with a new project.

Princess Anne is the sponsor of HMS Venturer, the Royal Navy’s newest frigate, which is currently under construction in Rosyth.

As work continued, the Princess Royal was given a tour of the assembly facility. Wearing safety clothes, she was given an overview of the work involved in building the UK’s first Type 31 warship.

Work on the 455 feet vessel has been going on for two years already and is already well developed. At completion, HMS Venturer will be involved in a wide range of activities around the world including maritime security patrols.

The Princess Royal met those involved in work on the ship. As sponsor, she will be involved in many of the major moments in the vessel’s life including naming and commissioning ceremonies and she will also be given regular updates.

During her visit to Rosyth, Princess Anne also presented Long Service and Good Conduct medals to two of the ship’s company.

Once completed, HMS Venturer will have a crew of 115 men and women. However, there are currently just 12 people in the ship’s company. Princess Anne joined them and others involved in the development of the frigate for a group photograph.
