Happy Birthday to Princess Alexandra of Kent, the Hon. Lady Ogilvy, who turns 87 today! The only daughter of Prince George, Duke of Kent and Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, Princess Alexandra is the Queen’s only paternal female cousin and has worn some spectacular jewels over the past seven decades as a working royal, which includes this Diamond Choker!

In the late 1950s, Princess Alexandra began wearing this tight, intricate diamond bracelet of unknown provenance which was worn for a series of official portraits with the Pearl Circle Bandeau and Diamond Flowers as well as Gala Events, like a Banquet at Nepalese Embassy in 1960, in addition to when she gave Independence to Nigeria in 1960.
Princess Alexandra continued to wear the Diamond Bracelet through the 1970s and 1980s, with a final notable appearance at the BAFTA Ceremony at the South Coast Plaza Hotel in Costa Mesa, California in 1990, paired with her Golden Jubilee Necklace.
By the mid-1990s, Princess Alexandra turned the Diamond Bracelet into a Choker by adding another multi-strand pearl bracelet to the back, which appeared at a Gala Dinner in 1995 and several official portraits wit the Ogilvy Tiara.
The Diamond Choker had become one Princess Alexandra’s more favoured jewels by the mid-2000s, being worn for a Diplomatic Reception in 2005 and the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh’s Diamond Wedding Anniversary in 2007.
In recent years, Princess Alexandra has primarily worn the Diamond Choker with the Ogilvy Tiara, being worn for the Colombian State Banquet in 2016, the Spanish State Banquet in 2017, and the Dutch State Banquet in 2018.
Princess Alexandra also paired the Diamond Choker with the Ogilvy Tiara for the Queen’s Commonwealth Dinner at Buckingham Palace in 2018, and the American State Banquet in 2019. There is no doubt we will continue to see the Choker for years to come!
