The Prince of Wales has had to miss a memorial service for his godfather, King Constantine.

Prince William was set to attend the commemoration at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor but Kensington Palace announced just before it began that he would no longer be able to take part.

The Palace said it was for personal reasons. It is understood those reasons won’t impact on future engagements already in his diary.

After this raised questions about the health of the Princess of Wales, who is recuperating following major abdominal surgery in January, it was confirmed that Her Royal Highness continues to make good progress.

Queen Camilla led the Royal Family at the service which marked the life of Constantine, last King of Greece, who died in January 2023.

The Princess Royal and Tim Laurence were present. As this was a family occasion, rather than an official royal event, the Duke of York also took part, accompanied by his ex-wife, Sarah, Duchess of York.

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi joined them.

The Duke of Kent was accompanied by his daughter, Lady Helen Windsor, while Princess Alexandra also attended, using a wheelchair.

King Charles was unable to take part as he continues to be treated for cancer.
