Prince Harry’s claims are based on feelings, but that won’t win this case

Prince Harry has finished giving evidence in his civil case against Mirror Group Newspapers after nearly two days of being questioned in the witness box.

“It’s clear that the Duke of Sussex believes that from the moment he got a mobile phone, into more recent years, that he has been hacked and his information has been obtained illegally,” says Camilla Tominey.

Andrew Green KC, representing MGN, is suggesting that some Mirror articles were published following Press Association reports, or articles by other newspapers about information that was already in the public domain.

“The crux of this case relies on specifics. Prince Harry has gone into the witness box wanting to speak on generalities and admitting he doesn’t have much evidence to back up his claims, says Camilla.

“Harry is wanting to use this case as a trial of the media as a whole, as a trial into the press intrusion he faced. Harry is trying to make it about something bigger; about the behaviour of the press as a whole was intolerable, unreasonable, and unlawful.”
