One royal expert has shared that they believe Prince Harry could be “sending a message” by not bringing his children to the UK.
Although he has made several visits to the UK, the father of two has not travelled back to his home country with Meghan Markle or their children – Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three – since 2022.
The lack of visits have meant that King Charles has not seen his two youngest grandchildren since they visited to celebrate the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.
With the visit taking place around the time of Lilibet’s first birthday, the monarch is thought to have met his granddaughter for the first time during that trip to the UK.
The Sun’s royal editor Matt Wilkinson has said that Harry’s decision appears to be “a bit like blackmail” – which is directed at the King over the row regarding his security.
Speaking of Harry’s lack of security in the UK, Mr Wilkinson said: “I think it almost felt like a bit like blackmail, kind of saying, ‘If I don’t get my security, then you will never see your grandchildren, or the country will never see the family come back to the UK unless I get my security.”
When Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior working royals in 2020 – and moved to the US later that year – the couple lost their right to automatic security if they were to visit the UK again.
Harry, 40, is set to appear in court to appeal a High Court judgement that upholds a Home Office decision to downgrade his security in April.
Also speaking on a recent episode of The Sun’s Royal Exclusive, royal photographer Arthur Edwards referred to the Duke of Sussex as “stupid” for keeping his children away from their paternal grandfather in the UK.
