Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been accused of “shamelessly” riding on the Sussex title they worked to distance themselves from when they left the royal fold.

A scathing comment piece in The Telegraph claims the Duchess of Sussex cannot leave the Royal Family alone, despite moving thousands of miles away from the UK to pitch up a new life in Montecito, California.

Camila Tominey, associate editor with The Telegraph wrote in detail about the latest “rebranding” of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. This includes the sparkly new website which includes their Sussex titles.

She wrote: “There is absolutely no reason for these non-working royals to carry on using their titles – not least with an entire website dedicated to telling the world that they are much, much more than mere royalty.”

The webpage replaced their previous Archewell.com website in a bid to rebrand themselves ahead of their next career moves – one of which was announced on Tuesday and confirmed a partnership with Lemonada Media for a new podcast series.

A note on the new site states that “The Office of Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex is shaping the future through business and philanthropy.”

Ms Tominey continued: “Humanitarian, military veteran, mental health advocate and environmental campaigner,’ Harry, we are told, has ‘dedicated his adult life to advancing causes that he is passionate about and that advance permanent change for people and places’.

“Meghan, meanwhile, is a ‘feminist and champion of human rights and gender equity’ with a ‘lifelong advocacy for women and girls’. Wow. So while Harry only started his philanthropy in adulthood, Meghan was doing it as a baby. Impressive.

“She is also apparently a ‘major advocate; for ‘family care’, which may come as a surprise to her estranged father and the rest of the Markle family she doesn’t appear to have cared much about in years.”

The updated website also indicates that Harry and Meghan intend to increase their public presence in the upcoming months, following a relatively low-profile 2023. They are scheduled to journey to Vancouver on February 14 for a One Year to Go event for the 2025 Invictus Games.

Detailing a timeline of Meghan and Harry’s public appearances, the journalist went on to drill down exactly what they have done since Megxit – a term pedalled off the back of Brexit to describe the Sussexes’ move away from royal life.

She also cited the absence of reference to the Windsors, and the use of the Royal coat of arms which she branded a “contradiction to their quest in finding freedom.”

But Harry and Meghan’s pals have leapt to their defence insisting they are within their rights to use the Sussex title as it’s their name.
