The Prince of Wales made support for the country’s rugby team a family affair as he travelled to France to cheer them on in the World Cup quarter finals.

Prince William took Prince George with him to the crucial match in Marseille but the double dose of royal support didn’t bring any luck to the Welsh.

The team lost 29-17 to Argentina and went out of the World Cup.

George and William arrived at the Stade de Marseille ahead of the game and had a lot to cheer about in the early stages as Wales raced to a 10-0 lead. But a strong performance from Argentina saw them take control of the match and grab a comfortable win.

The Prince of Wales is patron of Welsh Rugby and after the defeat, sent a message on social media to the team.

Prince William said ”Commiserations….sorry that it wasn’t to be this year but you can be very proud of all you have achieved and I know you’ll come back even stronger.”

The message, signed W, also sent congratulations to the Pumas, saying ”best of luck”.

The statement was also sent in Welsh.

Prince George’s mum, the Princess of Wales, is patron of England Rugby and will be at their quarter final on October 15th 2023. It’s not known whether any of her children will join her for that crunch game. They all broke up for half term in the past few days so won’t need to be tucked up in bed for an early start.
