As the world marked the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, in Denmark and Sweden, the monarchs of both countries attended church services for peace.

In Copenhagen, King Frederik and Queen Mary attended a church service at Holmen’s Church alongside government and Ukraine leaders, including the Ukrainian Ambasasdor, Andrii Yanevskyi. The service began with the hymn ‘Prayer for Ukraine’ as peace was honoured throughout the sermon.

On Monday evening, the Christiansborg Castle Tower was lit up in blue and yellow, the colours of the Ukrainian flag, to commemorate the third anniversary of the Russian invasion.

The Tower will be lit through Wednesday evening, with the Folketinget Chairman, Søren Gade, saying in a statement that “Ukraine continues to fight for freedom and Denmark continues to stand behind Ukraine. With the light in the Tower, we are sending a clear signal that the entire Folketinget supports Ukraine—even today.”

Meanwhile, in Sweden, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia attended a peace service at the Royal Palace Chapel alongside Ukrainians living within the country, the Ukrainian Ambassador Andriy Plachotnyuk, and other government and royal court officials.

During the service, Ukrainian refugees performed songs and music as the Ukrainian Ambassador and Swedish government officials gave speeches and sermons.
