The Norwegian Royal Family continues to deal with issues as Crown Princess Mette Marit’s son, Marius Borg Høiby, has reportedly been banned from his mother and step-father’s home.
Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit live at Skaugum, a manor house in Asker outside of Oslo. Seg og Høg reported in September that items had gone missing around the time Borg Høiby had thrown parties there for his friends.
It is thought that he has now been limited to a guest property at the edge of the estate and cannot access the main house.
In August, Marius Borg Høiby was arrested and questioned on suspicion of physical assault and then was arrested again in September.
The Norwegian Royal Family is an incredibly small working royal family. King Harald is 87 and has struggled with health issues over the last few years.
Crown Princess Mette Marit suffers from pulmonary fibrosis, a chronic lung condition that requires considerable treatment during flare-ups. This leaves Crown Prince Haakon and Queen Sonja to cover the bulk of royal engagements, with Haakon frequently representing the family.
It has been suggested that the Crown Princess may be required to speak to police regarding her son’s case. This comes while Mette-Marit is currently on sick leave.
The Norwegian Royal Family does not have any royals to “bring in” to help with the work load.
Crown Prince Haakon’s sister Princess Märtha Louise is not a member of the Royal House of Norway and has no public role. Her public royal duties were ended after concerns she was using her title for benefit.
Princess Ingrid Alexandra is only 20 and currently in her military training. The Norwegian Royal House has not confirmed whether or not she will attend university but it is likely.
The Norwegian Royal Family has remained fairly popular with a popularity rating between 70 and 80% over the last decade. A recent poll showed that a large majority don’t want King Harald to abdicate.
