Norway’s royals have opened up their private photo collection for a brand new exhibition.

Images taken by kings, queens, princes and princesses are all on show in a new display called ”Royal Photographers: snapshots from 1890 to 1990”.

The exhibition shows the family behind the scenes and aims to give an idea of how the royals see themselves and their role.

Among the snaps are family moments including King Harald and his son, Crown Prince Haakon, enjoying a day out. Another shows Harald’s father, King Olav, as a boy with his own father, the new King Haakon VII.

In more truly historic snaps, Harald’s mother, Crown Princess Martha, is shown during the war visiting troops in Scotland.

Queen Sonja opened the exhibition which is set in the arts space which bears her name at the Royal Palace in Oslo.

She was accompanied by Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit.

After officially opening the exhibition, the Queen of Norway added one more photo to the collection, taking a snap from the stage to complete the story, until now, of how the country’s royals see the world around them.

The exhibition runs at the Queen Sonja Arts Stable over the next year with full details of opening times on the official website.
