King of Malaysia’s Installation Banquet 


Royal Guests and Relatives from Brunei, Bahrain and the Malay Sultanates celebrated the Installation of the XVII Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) and Raja Permaisuri Agong (Queen) of Malaysia with a Banquet at the Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur on the evening of July 20th, following the Installation Ceremony held in the morning.

  The XVII Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) and Raja Permaisuri Agong (Queen) of Malaysia hosted the Banquet for 650 Guests in the Dewan Santapan Utama of the Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur.

Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and Queen Saleha of Brunei (wearing her Diamond Heart Tiara) and the King of Bahrain joined Royalty from around Malaysia, which included Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak and Raja Permaisuri Queen Zara Salim of Perak (wearing a Diamond Tiara), Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin of Terengganu and Sultanah Nur Zahirah (wearing the Terengganu State Diadem), Sultan Sallehuddin and Sultanah Maliha of Kedah (in the Kedah Diamond Tiara), the Yang di-Pertuan Besar Muhriz of Negeri Sembilan and Tunku Ampuan Besar Aishah Rohani of Negeri Sembilan, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, the Tengku Mahkota (Crown Prince) of Pahang, and Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra, the Raja Muda (Crown Prince) of Perlis and Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah, Raja Puan Muda of Perlis.

Royalty and Heads of States from around the Malay Peninsula have gathered for the Installation of Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar of Johor as the XVII Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King of Malaysia) in a series of Ceremonies at the Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur on July 20th, after his Accession in January.  Malaysia is the world’s only rotational monarchy, where the Hereditary Rulers of Nine of the Malay States are elected as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) for a 5-year term by the Conference of Rulers. The new Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong are expected to reign until 2029.

Upon their arrival at the Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong presided over Royal Salute in front of the Istana Negara at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim, where they were received by dignitaries including the Prime Minister.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong entered the Throne Hall leading a Procession alongside the Royal Regalia, Mace, Sword and Spear Holders, with the Grand Chamberlain, and starting the Installation with the Presentation of the Quran and the Regalia.

Afterwards, the Prime Minister formally proclaimed the full enthronement of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, following which the Grand Chamberlain presented the Keris Panjang Diraja (Royal Long Keris), as the symbol of the King’s royal authority.


Then the Yang di-Pertuan Agong gave his Oath of Installation, followed by a congratulatory address by the Prime Minister, and then the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s first Speech from the Throne. This was followed by a Thanksgiving Prayer and a Royal Procession to mark the closing of the Ceremony.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong wore the traditional Royal Regalia, including the Tengkolok Diraja, Bengkung, Keris Pendek Diraja, and Pendek Diraja.

Queen Raja Zarith Sofiah wore the Gandik Diraja Tiara and the Kalung Diraja Necklace.

The Sultan and Queen of Brunei and the King of Bahrain joined Royalty from around Malaysia at the Installation of the XVII Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King of Malaysia) and Raja Permaisuri Agong (Queen) at the Istana Negara.

The Malaysian Royal Court released Official Portraits of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King of Malaysia) and Raja Permaisuri Agong (Queen of Malaysia) ahead of the Sultan of Johor’s Installation as the XVII Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar of Johor will be Installed as the XVII Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King of Malaysia) in a series of Ceremonies after his Accession in January. The King and Queen will host an Installation Banquet for Foreign Dignitaries and Malay Royalties tomorrow.
