All the ways Princess Kate has channelled Barbie – and her pink suit is just the start

PRINCESS Kate is one of the most photographed and talked about women in the country – but there is one other person who is also hot on everyone’s lips this summer.

Many people are talking about Barbie due to the release of the new film, but are there any similarities between the two striking women?

Royal fans have pointed out similarities between Kate and Barbie

A royal fan has pointed out a number of links between the Princess of Wales and the famous Mattel doll.

TikTok user @matta_of_fact claims Kate Middleton, like Barbie, is a “blank canvas” when it comes to her fashion choices.

In a clip which has racked up 10,000 likes, she said: “I think this discussion needs to go beyond ‘royal women use their outfits to communicate’.

“That’s something a lot of royal women do, but what they don’t do is allow themselves to be used as a blank canvas for the world to project whatever they want onto them.

“That is something Kate Middleton has employed in her personal brand since day one entering into the royal family.

“And it’s something that Barbie is known for as well.”

The royal fan said Kate – like Barbie – isn’t “controversial” in personality, and this means more people can relate to them.

She continued: “The original Barbie dolls were designed so girls could play with them and project their own fantasies onto them.

“And while over the years Barbie did fall into many, many different career paths, the only real difference between astronaut Barbie and ballerina Barbie was her clothing.”

The royal fan said Kate’s team has achieved this with her being Royal Wedding Barbie, Holiday Barbie, Royal Gala Barbie, Fashion Barbie and Sporty Barbie.

One big difference, the TikToker claimed, was Kate having three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five.

She added: “Barbie herself was never allowed to become a mum.”

Aside from playing each royal role perfectly with her outfits, Kate is also a fan of Barbie’s signature colour.

We’ve recently seen Kate in a number of pink outfits, including at the Foundling Museum in central London and the Chelsea Flower Show.

Hailed as Barbiecore fashion, the trend of dressing in pink has been gaining momentum since the first images of actress Margot Robbie as the Mattel legend emerged last year.

And following the release of the trailer in April, online searches for pink outfits have leapt 78 per cent, according to fashion shopping platform Lyst.

Nick Drewe, trend expert at discounts website WeThrift said earlier this year: “It looks that the Barbiecore trend will continue to surge and be the hottest (and pinkest) one for summer 2023, following the much anticipated release of the Barbie movie in July.”
