The King looked happy to be at the glittering event at the Royal Albert Hall, though, and went home with a gift for Queen Camilla after he was presented with a posy of flowers for Her Majesty.
Charles III wore a classic black tuxedo for the performance.
Comedian Alan Carr and presenter Amanda Holden hosted the star-studded evening.

The English National Ballet and Cirque du Soleil both performed as did Sophie Ellis-Baxter whose career has seen major resurgence following the use of her song in Saltburn.
The world of theatre was well-represented at the show, as well. Sir Elton John and David Furnish’s new musical, The Devil Wears Prada, shared a song from the production. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Starlight Express cast performed, as did Sir Cameron Mackintosh’s cast from Oliver!.
The Royal Variety Charity helps to provide support and assistance to those in the entertainment industry who need it. This year, the organisation launched an initiative to those needing mental health support.
