King Charles and Princess Beatrice match at Royal Ascot

The Royal Family clearly compared notes before heading out for Royal Ascot with everyone co-ordinating in pastels for day one. But it was The King and one of his nieces, Princess Beatrice, who decided to share a style trend.

King Charles added a shirt with pastel squares to his outfit for day one. Of course, His Majesty was following the dress code for the Royal Enclosure to the letter and turned up in pale grey morning dress (dark navy and black are also acceptable). His shirt had a white collar but the pattern was the on trend summer must have – checks, this time in pale pink and blue.

As is required, The King wore a waistcoat, choosing powder blue and necktie in lavender grey and added the obligatory top hat in black (although surely the Sovereign is allowed to stray from the rules if the mood takes him).

While His Majesty’s outfit co-ordinated to perfection with the pale sage green coat dress and hat chosen by Queen Camilla, it was Princess Beatrice who was the closest fashion match.

The ninth in line to the throne went for a day dress in gingham for the first day of Royal Ascot. There was no chance of Beatrice being mistaken for an extra from Little House on the Prairie as this was couture gingham in the form of a belted jacket with puff sleeves and an A Line skirt that matched the Royal Enclosure requirements of on the knee or below, length wise.

Princess Beatrice’s pale pink and white dress was topped with a pale pink hat that featured a large bow beneath the brim.

The Royal Family was a vision in pastel for day one, with Beatrice’s cousin, Zara Tindall, choosing a pale blue dress with lace detailing and a bright pink hat. Her husband, Mike Tindall, wore a bright blue tie with his grey morning suit.

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Edinburgh wore a white dress with a pink hat that was almost discreet in comparison to other Ascot picks. Sophie has shown herself partial to a huge hat at other meetings and with a whole week of racing and style to come, there’s every chance she’s saving the big one for later n the week.
