Fashion stylist Ellis Ranson said the Princess of Wales uses shapewear to get a seamless finish to her outfits during public engagements.
She told Fabulous: “The benefit of the short style shapewear and even the knickers is they are seamless so can prevent any VPL (visible pant line).
“Kate Middleton always looks comfortable in her clothing, she isn’t worrying about ill-fitting underwear or straps on show she can just focus on her day.
“Swapping for shapewear is a great stylist tip as it’s also great for holding you in in all the right places.”
Ellis added: “Your underwear is like the foundation to your make up, if you get it right then everything else fits and works perfectly but if you get it wrong the whole look just doesn’t work.
“It’s very easy to not think about the minor details, or quickly grab the strapless bra that, let’s face it, we all find pretty uncomfy as it falls down throughout the day.
“Another huge tip, find out your correct sizing for underwear.”
And seamless shapewear isn’t the only hack royal women use to look polished.
Previously, etiquette expert Myka Meier said Kate and Meghan Markle have a sneaky trick to stop their skirts blowing up in public and revealing their underwear.
She said: “Often they wear body suits and clothes that actually increase static so it’s much harder for something to fly up.
“So you have an undergarment that is almost like a bodysuit, that is one tactic that is used.
“I know when I went to finishing school we were taught that when you are on the tarmac if you do not use weights or heavy weighted material, you make sure it will not fly up by wearing undergarments that keep the fabrics connected to your body.”
The Queen was said to use weights along the hem of her dresses, and these were reportedly sourced from the curtain accessories section of the department store Peter Jones.
Royal couturier, Stewart Parvin, previously told MailOnline: “I just pop a couple of weights into the hemline of her dresses and coats and it makes them hang beautifully.
“If there is a flap in the coat then I will sew in one on each side of the split to even it up.
“The beauty of a handmade outfit is that it hangs just right but, of course, we have a few tricks up our sleeve.
“Sometimes if she is wearing a lightweight chiffon skirt I will sew in a smaller lead weight the size of a pea or even a length of chain.”
The royal tip is particularly useful when getting off a plane, when strong winds can sometimes cause an embarrassing situation.
