Boulter, 26, admitted to having a good time with the royal family member as she revealed Kate was making jokes and was “stunning”.

She told Tatler: “She was cracking jokes… she was really enjoying the tennis.

“She was surprising… and absolutely stunning.”

However, it was not her first time meeting a royal as she encountered Queen Elizabeth II in 2007.

The two met during the opening of the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton.

Boulter recalled: “I remember she asked if we still do schooling [alongside our tennis].

“As a 14-year-old kid, my answer was pretty long-winded.”

She revealed her address to the royal.

Before adding: “As if the Queen is going to pop round for tea!”

Boulter is heading into Wimbledon in good form, having won the Nottingham Open earlier this month.

It was the biggest win of her career and this was the first all-British WTA Tour final for 46 years when Sue Barker beat Virginia Wade in San Francisco.

Boulter has had to contend with various injuries throughout her career and that explains the tears that rolled down her cheeks as she talked after her win.

The British No.1 said: “I’m definitely going to be sleeping with this trophy tonight.

“I dreamt of this moment at this tournament ever since I was a little girl, since I first trained here aged four or five years old.

“So, coming here as a fan and also now as a player, dreaming big, I something found a way to win it – this means more than everything to me.”
