Prince Edward and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh are currently in Malta to mark the 60th anniversary of Malta’s independence and celebrate the country’s shared heritage and continuing collaboration with the UK.
They arrived in the country, where Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip lived for two years before she ascended the throne, on Monday and have a series of engagements today.
Sophie and Edward kickstarted the day by officially opening the Submariners’ Walkway in Valetta.
They headed inside the National War Museum where they viewed the current national flag of Malta, alongside the previous version featuring the blue canton that bears a representation of the George Cross.
The couple, who recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary, also viewed the letter from King George VI awarding Malta the George Cross.
