But fans of Coronation Street may well remember a time when the former Prince of Wales graced the famous cobbles.

Did King Charles appear in Coronation Street?

Back when he was still Prince of Wales, King Charles made a surprising cameo on Coronation Street.

The fictional storyline saw the then Prince Charles meeting with Audrey (Sue Nicholls) – the elected councillor for Weatherfield at the time.

His visit to the famous street came as the residents’ protested against the council’s attempts to dig up the legendary cobbles.

The pair’s meeting was then broadcast live as part of a television news bulletin and watched by Audrey’s friends.

When did King Charles appear in Coronation Street?

The cameo was filmed during a visit by King Charles to the famous Corrie set on December 8 2000.

The royal was there to unveil a plaque in honour of the TV show’s 40th anniversary.

While visiting the Granada Television studios in Manchester, Charles popped into the Rovers Return and chatted with several cast members, including actors William Roache (Ken Barlow), Jacqueline Pirie (Linda Baldwin), and Jack P. Shepherd (David Platt).

The senior royal also spoke with the late actress Liz Dawn, who played the legendary Vera Duckworth at the time.

Which other royals have visited the Coronation Street set?

The Late Queen Elizabeth famously walked on the Corrie cobbles back in 1982, with husband Prince Philip.

Princess Anne then visited the set over 40 years later in 2023.

The Royal Family have also often been mentioned in episodes of the soap.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding in 1981 was talked about my characters on the show.

While, Prince William’s 2011 marriage to Kate Middleton was also discussed on-screen.

Have any other royals appeared in TV shows?

The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson famously appeared on Friends in 1998 in a scene with Joey (Matt LeBlanc) outside Buckingham Palace.

Prince William and Princess Kate also teamed up with Mary Berry in 2019 for a Christmas special.

In 2022 King Charles appeared on The Repair Shop, while that same year wife Camilla appeared on a festive edition of For The Love Of Dogs with the late Paul O’Grady.

Also in 2022, Mike Tindall – son-in-law of Princess Anne – came fourth on I’m a Celebrity.
