Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg are hosting President Petr Pavel of the Czech Republic and First Lady Eva Pavlová on their State Visit to Luxembourg from February 29 to March 1st.
President Petr Paveland First Lady Eva Pavlová were welcomed by Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa in an Official Welcome Ceremony outside the Grand Ducal Palace, which was followed by an Audience as well as the laying of a wreath at the ‘Monument de la Solidarité Nationale‘, the national war memorial of Luxembourg.
During the afternoon, the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess joined the President and First Lady for a visit to the Hôtel de Ville, and the Grand Duke also joined them to lay a tribute to the Czechoslovak student who set himself on fire in 1969, ahead of a tribute to John the Blind in the crypt of Notre-Dame Cathedral, who was both Count of Luxembourg and King of Bohemia at the beginning of the 14th century. They also visited the center of the satellite operator “SES” at Betzdorf Castle.
In the evening, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa were joined by Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie as they hosted a State Banquet for Czech President Petr Paveland First Lady Eva Pavlová at the Grand Ducal Palace.
Both the Grand Duke and President gave speeches, with the former saying:
I am confident that you will have plenty of occasions to measure the potential of further cooperation in the private as well as in the public sectors. This will give even more substance to our existing ties, for the benefit of both our Nations.
Grand Duchess Maria Teresa wore the Belgian Scroll Tiara, two Diamond Riveres, and Princess Ingeborg’s Pearl Brooch with the Order of the Gold Lion of the House of Nassau.
Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie wore the Chaumet Emerald Tiara for the first time with the Antique Emerald Earrings and the Order of Adolphe of Nassau.
