After a series of blockbuster appearances at Wimbledon and Trooping the Colour over the summer, could we next see the Princess of Wales in Paris?
According to the Daily Express, Catherine is said to be eyeing a trip across the Channel next week with her husband as they take in some Olympic competitions. Currently, the Princess Royal and her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, have been representing the British Royal Family in Paris. Princess Anne is, herself, a former Olympian, a member of the International Olympic Committee, and President of the British Olympic Association.
The Daily Express quotes a source close to Catherine as saying that “The Princess would love to go to the Olympics. She has such fond memories of London 2012 and is keen to go to another Games while it’s so close to home.”
The royal, who has been receiving chemotherapy for an undisclosed form of cancer since the winter, has only made two public appearances so far this year. In a letter released ahead of Trooping the Colour, Catherine wrote that her treatment would continue for a few more months, and that she hoped “to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet.”
Any decisions about Catherine’s attendance at the Paris Olympics would only come with approval from her medical team and depend on how she responds to her treatment. As she wrote in June: “I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.”
Despite not being on the ground in Paris, William and Catherine have been supporting Team Great Britain from home. The royal couple congratulated the Equestrian Eventing Team and Tom Piddick from mountain biking on their gold medals. “Huge congratulations to the Equestrian Eventing Team and Tom Pidcock in the mountain biking on winning
@TeamGB’s first gold medals! Here’s to more success ahead!”
The Daily Express says William is likely to attend some of the climbing events next week in Paris. It is thought that Prince George and Princess Charlotte could join him, as they’re currently off from school.
Catherine is patron of SportsAid, a sporting charity that helps young athletes with financial support so they can focus on training and competition. At the Paris Olympics, 64% of Team Great Britain athletes have received support from SportsAid. In 2016, she said: “‘the brilliance of SportsAid is in really understanding just how much athletic competition gives to our country as a whole.”
