Osborne House has been named as a “lovely piece of history” by visitors after opening up to the public. The stunning home was a former residence of the Royal Family which is situated in East Cowes, Isle of Wight.

The hidden gem was built between 1845 and 1851 for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. They intended to use it over the summer holidays as a rural retreat escaping city life.

Thanks to Albert’s design of the house in the style of an Italian Renaissance palazzo, it is full of rich architecture and grand furniture. The public can visit the breathtaking home during the week and on weekends.

Meanwhile, there are a variety of family tickets available for two adults and three children, meaning you could walk in for less than £50 altogether. All of the ticket prices include a donation price which goes towards the restoration of the property.

The treasured island also has 17 miles of coastline and over 5,000 acres of countryside, where you can go on stunning sun-rise and sun-set strolls. 

You can purchase tickets here to visit Compton Bay and Downs, one of the Isle of Wight’s most favoured beaches and the biggest expanses of open downland.

Visitors can walk around the inside of the home and closely examine the state and personal rooms.

I also saw Victoria’s very own bathing machine on her private beach. Many items are also on loan from the Royal Collection Trust.

Victoria’s successor, Edward VII (1841–1910), decided not to take it on, and no other member of the royal family wanted to take it. So, on Coronation Day in 1902, the king gave the estate to the nation.

Writing on Trip Advisor one fan wrote: “We have been here a few times and it never fails to impress. Everything about it is stunning…”

A second person penned: “Osborne House was by far my favourite place we visited whilst in the Isle of Wight! The house is absolutely stunning and when you enter it’s like you’ve gone back in time!”

“Great to spend a full day here. Nice cafe down by the beach. Much more interesting than other stately homes,” added a third.
