Royal Guests and Relatives gathered from around Europe to attend the Wedding of Princess Ragnhild of Norway, the elder daughter of the future King Olav V of Norway and Princess Martha of Sweden, and her former bodyguard, Erling Lorentzen, a member of a prominent shipping family, at the Asker Parish Church near Oslo on this day in 1953, 70 years ago, followed by a Reception at the Family Home at Skaugum.
The leading Royal Guests were the bride’s paternal grandfather, King Haakon VII of Norway, and his sister, Princess Ingeborg of Sweden (wearing the Diamond Tiara), who was the bride’s maternal grandmother.
The hosts of the wedding were the bride’s parents, Crown Prince Olav and Crown Princess Martha (in the Norwegian Emerald Parure).
The Danish Royal Family were led by King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid of Denmark (wearing the Danish Pearl Poiré Tiara), who were cousins of both the brides parents.
The British Royal Family were closely related to the Norwegian Royals and were represented by Princess Margaret (in the Cartier Halo Tiara), with the official Swedish representative was Prince Bertil of Sweden.
The extended Royal Relatives were led by the bride’s aunt, Princess Margaretha of Sweden and Denmark (wearing Princess Ingeborg’s Turquoise Star Tiara), and uncle Prince Axel of Denmark.
