Earthshot Prize announces its 2023 location – Royal Central

The Earthshot Prize is headed to Singapore later this year for its third iteration.

“The Earthshot Prize is all about showing the world that solutions to some of the biggest environmental challenges we face are out there and need to be scaled,” said the Prince of Wales.

“After two years of discovering impactful ideas and innovations, I am delighted that The Earthshot Prize is travelling to Singapore, where the ground-breaking solutions of our 2023 Finalists will be celebrated.”

The prize ceremony—which will see five winners awarded £1 million to work on their projects—will take place on 7 November as part of the first-ever Earthshot Week.

Earthshot Week, as announced by the organisation, “will see global leaders, businesses and investors convene in Singapore to explore exciting opportunities…aimed at accelerating [winners’ and finalists’] solutions and bringing about tangible action to repair the planet.”

The Earthshot Prize website notes that Singapore was chosen because it is located in one of the areas most affected by climate change but also because it is a hub for innovators and leaders who are tackling the issues related to climate change.

There are also four new strategic partners as the Earthshot Prize heads to Singapore: Temasek Trust, Temasek, GenZero and Conservation International, all of whom will guide Earthshot as it builds its base in Singapore this year.

Prince William launched the Earthshot Prize back in 2020 to encourage people and organisations to find solutions to five climate problems.

The five areas are: Protect and Restore Nature, Clean our Air, Revive our Oceans, Build a Waste-free World and Fix our Climate. Nominators spend months each year sourcing nominees before the finalists—five in each category—are announced in the autumn.

William and Catherine have attended prize ceremonies in London and Boston in support of the finalists and winners.
