It was a big year for two royal Swedish sisters-in-law: Princess Madeleine and family moved back to Sweden after a prolonged will-they-won’t-they and Princess Sofia announced she’s expecting her fourth child in the new year! And they did it all in style. Let’s take a look back at their fashion hits of 2024.
A study in Nobel Prize styling
My jaw hit the floor at the fashion duo of Princess Sofia and Princess Madeleine at the Nobel Prize ceremony earlier this month! There’s Princess Madeleine, positively dripping in diamonds and emeralds with that fantastic off-the-shoulder Fadi El Khoury evening gown; and to her right, Princess Sofia looks stunningly regal in a royal blue Soeren Le Schmidt gown paired with her wedding tiara—which had been topped off with blue topazes.
The Nobel Prize ceremony is always the best fashion event of the year for Sweden’s royals and this year’s stylings definitely vaulted the royal sisters-in-law up a few notches!
La crème de la crème
Princess Sofia is always a fashion maven when it comes to State Banquets, and the first of the year, welcoming French President Emmanuel Macron and Brigitte Macron, was not a disappointment. Perfectly styled and perfectly draped in a champagne Lars Wallin gown, Princess Sophia was the belle of the ball.

The illusion neckline was perfect to display all of her honours and the giant cinched bow at the waist added an extra layer of elegance.
A Berry Beautiful Princess
Since returning to Sweden over the summer Princess Madeleine has dived headfirst back into royal work, mostly with the World Childhood Foundation.

In early October, she attended a charity auction preview for the Foundation in an autumnal oxblood Jonathan Simkhai jumper and pleated skirt with complementary gold jewellery.
The Lemon Lime Princess
Once again, Princess Sofia stood out during a State Visit—literally. A burst of colour caught everyone’s attention during a major event.

At the official luncheon for the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, and First Lady Suzanne Innes-Stubb, amidst a sea of navy blues and blush roses and cream whites there was Princess Sofia in a vintage-inspired lemon-lime bouclé dress that assured all eyes were on her.
The Emerald Princess
In mid-November, Princess Madeleine attended the United Nations’ meeting From Commitment to Action: Ensuring Sustainable Action to End Violence Against Children in her role with the World Childhood Foundation.

While in town, she also attended the Foundation’s 2024 Gala, and looked stunning in this gorgeous emerald green Self Portrait dress. Her dress added elegance with its wrap-style bodice and shimmery rhinestone studded fabric.
Musical Metallics
Princess Sofia once again set herself apart from Queen Silvia and Crown Princess Victoria at the Polar Music Prize Ceremony in late April. While her counterparts wore florals and sequins, Princess Sofia went for an all-black metallics look from Swedish designer Fadi El Khoury.

Her metallic chain metal-style bolero jacket hinted at the curvaceous strapless black velvet dress underneath.
Autumnal perfection from a princess
Honestly, Princess Madeleine’s Min Stora Dag princess party at the Royal Palace in 2018 is in my top 10 royal fashion moments of all time, but her pick for an event for the organisation this year is pretty smart, too.

While she didn’t go the tiaras and orders route with her visit to the Astrid Lindgren’s Children’s Hospital and to the offices of Min Stora Dag, she still looked impossibly chic in a turtleneck burgundy sweater from Wakakuu Icons and a Massimo Dutti leather skirt. Very autumnal, very regal, and very Madeleine!
A dramatic dark look
Princess Sofia has always been a hands-on royal and she truly shows this whenever she works with Sophiahemmet, a private hospital in Sweden. During the pandemic, she completed an online course in order to help out at the Sophiahemmet and alleviate the burden on frontline care workers.

At October’s graduation ceremony, Princess Sofia met the moment in a classic yet chic black Rodebjer dress that gave hints of summery caftan while still being sleek.
Miami Blues!
Back when she was still living stateside, Princess Madeleine maintained her royal interest in protecting children in online spaces. In March, she took part in a training session on improving social media safety for young people through the Human Trafficking Front as organised by the Miami Lakes Middle School.

It’s more muted than some of her other royal looks, but she cuts a classic silhouette in this powder blue Veronica Beard tweed jacket.
A Vogue-worthy Birthday Portrait
Princess Sofia celebrated her 40th birthday at the beginning of the month and it coincided with a Vogue Scandinavia cover story.

Amidst the glamour shots and behind-the-scenes snippets of her royal life, we were also treated to this stunning birthday portrait by the Swedish Royal Court and Vogue Scandinavia: Princess Sofia looks absolutely stunning in this deep red Soeren Le Schmidt gown and Cartier jewelry.
Stripes and Neutral Business Dressing
How to look both chic for a business conference while still adding a bit of royal sparkle?

Princess Madeleine’s Veronica Beard cream pantsuit and neutral accessories did the job!
